GRIND EGG SHELLS INTO A POWDER FOR PEPPER PLANTS / SYSTEM

I have a 250 gallon fish tank with 6 grow beds and I have hot peppers with leaves that are crinkling up ,, i have read that the cause is lack of calcium.

The question I have is can you grind egg shells into a powder add it to your aquaponic system or do you keep whole shells in a nylon sock?

I break them up in to small pieces, then put them in a cup or nylon. Make sure that the water is running over them. Calcium Carbonate (egg shells) will also raise your PH.
