Good Idea or Misunderstading

Hello Everyone,

                         Im interested in setting up an NFT system were i live.I have a question regarding the sump tank,if solid drop out is so critical shouldn't the sump tank come before the filters.Based on my understanding, if sump tank goes after the fish tank  the large solids would drop out from the very beginning an have an have aeration taking place inside it. then have a water pump near the water level leading the smaller solids into different filters. then onto the plant channels.
