Most likely powdery mildew.

From OrganicGardening.com : "Spraying leaves with baking soda (1 teaspoon in 1 quart water) raises the pH, creating an inhospitable environment for powdery mildew."

Much thanks, we'll try and report back.

Potassium bicarbonate is also a safe aquaponic solution for powdery mildew.

Great information.  Thanks,

I tried spraying a potassium bi carb solution on my cucumber leaves but it seemed to burn them.  My plant is otherwise healthy and even flowering so I removed the two leaves most affected.  To what pH should I mix the spray to?

I'm not sure what pH should be applied, but I do have a detail that might come in handy. Spraying should be done in the later part of the afternoon. Sometimes water on plant leaves can intensify the sun's rays and burn your plants (same with growlights).

First question is how much did you use? second question did you use it with the lights on? Any topical spray should be applied either with the lights off or right before you turn off the lights. Those water droplets turn into magnifying glasses under grow lights.

Aloha Dan and friends

I posted this three days ago, but somehow the post itself disappeared, leaving just the two attachments. I'm posting it again because it may help to know what the attachments are, instead of just leaving them floating there in the middle of the discussion without explanation.

Can't make a diagnosis without a photo; a lot of stuff looks alike, and it would be a bad guess. But here is a resource you can use, if you can identify the active rust or fungus:

I've attached a 17-page document on USDA organically certified aquaponics pest control techniques that my wife Susanne researched and wrote. We've been using all these successfully for at least 2-1/2 years on our USDA organically certified aquaponics systems; there is no conjecture or guessing about whether these treatments are safe for use with fish and plants.

I've also attached a copy of our "Planting Trials", that may also be useful.
