I live in North Idaho. What type of fish should I use in my tanks? I am putting the tanks in the green house that faces south, so it will be warm in the summer, and the green house has infloor heat for the winter time. I would like to use the same fish year around, is this possible?
If you don't want to eat the fish then Koi are a good choice as they can handle a wide range of temperature and water quality fluctuations and they are widely available. A good thing to do is to start with a hearty fish like Koi or goldfish and keep track of your water temp and quality in the different seasons and then find the right fish that will do well in your conditions. Another easy fish that handles a wide range of conditions is the Channel Catfish. Northern Idaho might be a perfect place to raise Rainbow Trout too, but they require very good water conditions and some experience, so it may not be the fish to start with.
