Hello,
I have a pump going out from my ST to FT with a 3/4 inch pipe. i have a syphon going out from the FT to a Swirl Filter and then on to the ST with a 1 1/2 pipe. the issue is the water does not "flow" fast enough out of the FT into the ST. The 1 1/2 inch pipe is hardly utilized to its full size.
if I increase the flow of water into the FT by running another pump from the ST in an effort to increase the flow out of the fish tank toward the ST and increase the rate of flow, to my disappointment, instead of the rate of the water increasing in the 1 1/2 pipe out of the fish tank, the level of the water in the FT increases and it over flow, eventually running the ST dry since notheing is going back to it. Any help on how to increase the flow out of the fish tank?

About 10 years ago my friend Gary made up my mind. Solids in GBs or Not, that´s the question.
Furthermore since last year I get the solids OUT OF THE SYSTEM asap by means of dual drum filters for both settable and fine solids with 200 and 53 microns meshes. They are almost of my conception and are very cheap.
I also put crayfishes that will eat about everything left over by the Tilapias. There was some concern about the tilapia´s eggs but fry keeps blooming.
The main reason I decided to remove them a this time was for the oxygen consumption as I was working at very high altitudes, above 12 000"
Hey Moe, read all the comments and the only advice I have is "Plumbing 101, sh.. Crap runs downhill. This can't be anything that complicated. Think like water and follow the path. Your pipes sound totally adequate for a system your size. My 2500g system runs 1 1/4" from 5 full size IBC FTs into a 15g swirl and from there to the GH side and 5 IBC GBs and I have never had a problem. Are u sure a fingerling didn't get stuck in there? You MUST do a slotted pipe inlet to keep the fish out.Only make your slots 1/4" wide to avoid clogs. This is a very old pic. More here on this and a lot more:https://youtu.be/ljP-99aqwI4
Hi Jim,i watched the whole one hour of the video. Very impressive. it is so nice that you documented it with photos. it is a great idea. the transformation of the landscape is awesome. Now, back to my issue. now, I need to get to the system and try the SLO method you have above. May be it will help. I will let you know. also, the swirl tank I have, the water is hardly swirling and I started to get mosquitos on the top. I will post more when I have something to contribute. thanks
Hi,
I have a question, does the fish tank water level and the swirl tank water level need to be the same? the reason I am asking is because I have the outlet from the swirl tank to the sumb tank at the same level as the water level in the fish tank, may be higher !!! by a 1 cm or so. I am thinking that this might be the cause that water is not flowing in or out of the swirl filter as fast. I searched a alot but I do not see any reference to this. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
