Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hey guys and gals,

I got some liquid seaweed extract but the directions for dosing listed is not geared toward aquaponics. The growshop had maxigrow but this is what they gave my wifey. The kind I have is made by Technaflora and it is called B-Seaweed. I got the 500ml bottle.

 Any thoughts would be great.

My full system is only a water volume of 20 gallons.

I am seeing signs of calcium difficency in my lettuce leaves and now new growth is showing signs as well . Where as before it showed up and was not there from the begining.

Does that have the N-P-K readings of 0.1-0-1.0 ?

If so, the way I originally figured out my dose for maxicrop was to read the label and where it say use x amount per some gallons per 100 square foot of garden.  I just simply added x amount to my system per 100 square feet of grow bed.  I usually splash some in under the water inlet to the grow beds.

Now days I use about a quart every few months in my big system which has over 1400 gallons of gravel in it.

However, if you are seeing calcium deficiency, you better do a pH test and see if you need to add some calcium carbonate buffer if your pH has dropped too low.

This product ranks in for N-0, P-0, and K-1.0 so basically the same as maxicrop.  I have had a small amount of crushed coral in the tank from the begining. I use crushed coral to keep my African Peacocks and Lithobates at a ph of around 8.0.  My main growing goal for AP is leafy greens.  That is why I only added alittle to my AP system in fear that my ph may raise to high. Last time I check my ph it was right around 6.8.    The bottle says it makes 23 gallons. Looks like a math equation coming!!

The hydroponic directions say add 1/2 teaspoon for every quart.  or 2-3ml for every liter

hi what are signs of calcium def?

According to the lettuce disease manuel I have, it showed that light to major crisping and or  browning on the tips of some or all leaves.
I am not an expert aqua farmer yet but am assuming this is caused by my system being young and not enough worms growing in my bed yet. Showing my system is not properly balanced yet. I just started to add seaweed extract in hopes to help develpoment.  My ph is 7.2 not 6.8. Can any  seasoned growers tell me what this looks like? It is not a major concern to me  now, but when I become a local grower it will be!

I'd say add the seaweed extract and see what happens in a few more weeks.  How big is your system.  I know most small systems a cap full to a shot glass full would probably do you for for a week or so.
