Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi there people,

I did search to see if this had been asked before, if I missed it somewhere I apologise.

I know lots of people are feeding their fish Red Worms and BSF, I know the fish in my rain barrels will eat anything they can when they can, but has anyone tried feeding cockroaches to the fish in their aquaponic system? Now, I'm not suggesting giving them bugs you find around the house, or anything like that, I mean specifically having a roach farm to feed fish with.

I have heard that cockroaches produce a type of acid to make them less desirable as a food source, I know if I found a roach and threw it in my rain barrels it would go very quickly, but making it a staple food for fish in an aquaponic system??

Anyone tried this?

Cheers.

I would first see if our Canadian laws will allow you to grow cockroaches. I would suggest using crickets and mealworms instead, because you have access to dieses free insects that you can make into brood stalk.
