Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I have a terrible algae problem in my Aquaponic system. I used to have a similar problem in my indoor aquarium until I got some black fresh water snails they cleaned up the glass so well the tanks looked new.  But sometimes the dead snail shells would clog up the water pump tubes. anyone have snails in theirs?.

There are many species of fish that are great at eating algae. Plecos, Chinese highfin sharks, Chinese algae eaters and others.  Red cherry shrimp are also a great root cleaner in deep water culture as well. Also adding flowering or fruiting plants will help as well by pulling down your phosphate levels.
