Are you asking a question?  Something about a bio-filter I guess?  Yes all systems need a bio-filter of some sort but in media bed systems the plant bed actually serves the purpose by being a bio-filter as well as a solids filter and the place for plants as well as a great home for worms.

Not sure if that answers your question since I don't actually know what your question is.
