Has anybody tried biochar in growing medium ?

That poses some interesting questions.  Soft or hard wood, what about the charcoal dust on the fish (gills ).  Kinda  abrasive..I have a bunch of pine that would be a good candidate.  I need a yard and a half for the two new beds.

I think charcoal dust would be an issue with the fish. Plus, I'm sure your pump wouldn't appreciate it either :/

Bone char is an important additive in aquarium filters and beneficial bacteria love to form colony's . If it breaks down to powder that would clog up system.
If you use a airlift , you do not need a pump just a air pump.
