Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi!  We are new to the forum and the aquaponic community.  We are building a bio-filter that requires 100 cubic ft. of bio-fill ribbon.  In researching getting the ribbon I found some discussions/blogs that the ribbon is PVC pipe that is thin cut with a lathe.  Is this true?  I found that info looking for a lower cost option for the bio-fill ribbon.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would recommend using a media bed as your biofilter, but that's just my opinion :)

Hi Chris,

Yes the shavings can be used for filter material, after all, the use of PVC proliferates many an Aquaponic system. Please note however some of these shavings come from PVC which is not approved for potable water.

hey chris can you clarify this statement a little.

thank you
