Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

This is my first aquaponics set up.  I have a section of flower bed at the rear of my house.  It will make a tank approximately 400-500 gallons.  Since the tank will be underground, I am wondering what process would be best.  My intended tank measurements would be 12'x6'x6'.  I am setting up two vertical grow towers and one 16cu. ft flood and drain grow bed.

I understand about new concrete and ph.  Would I be better off simply building a cinderblock enclosure and using a pond liner?  How do you attach pond liners to vertical surfaces?  My other option is to build forms and pour concrete and treat the concrete with some type of sealer.  Any input and or suggestions would be great.  Thanks for your insight.

You can get the special potable water safe/fish safe pool paint type sealer (Aquatic Eco Systems sells it)

It is a bit costly but probably easier/faster than messing around with other methods, be sure to follow the instructions closely.

Two vertical towers and 16 foot of grow bed are not going to be much filtration for such a huge fish tank.  You should only stock your fish tank wit the amount of fish you have filtration for, and not knowing what kind of vertical towers you are talking about, I'm going to guess you should probably only stock about 20 fish in that system.  Are you going to be happy with only 20 fish in that huge fish tank?

The recommendation is for on about 1 fish per cubic foot of media filled grow bed for a first season system.
