Azolla for stagnant water & disease control

Hi,

I am from Chennai, India and we have a flood situation right now here, and there are stagnant water everywhere and lot of health issue might come due to it. I have azolla with me in my garden and was wonder if it can be used to fight back problem due to this stagnant water. Can we use azolla or any other natural water plant to control any kind of problem from stagnant waters, heard it good against mosquitoes and also purifies water. A little help from experts would be a lot of help for people here in Chennai, India.
