I don't know but, don't get the elongated ones--they break easily!
0oh break down as in..?
The elongated airstones broke in my hydroponic system when I pushed on them a bit to make it straight. I only use dense round ones. I have never tried square ones.
Although, what type of system are you planning, Deep Water Culture, Media, Combination? I suspect with a aquaponic system a small airstone is needed, such as my aquaponic system, if and only if with a conjunction between Flood and Drain and or cascade of water. (congrats if you can make sense of this sentence)

I noticed that the cheap little air stones like from wallmart have to be replaced constantly and they break appart eventually too.

I get high quality air stones from Aquatic eco systems so that I can clean them if needed and they will last.

Mine came from a hydroponics shop.

Got the chance to ask a staff of a pet products distributor about this, and her answer was that round airstones are better because:

1) they have more surface area and thus distributes bubbles better, and more evenly, and

2) they chip/break less often.

Her explanation made sense to me, so I bought the round ones (ever since). :)
