Does anyone know if there is any stage of a camallanus worm that can get into the grow beds? My tropical freshwater community tank definitely has camallanus worm, which I am going to treat with Levimasole HCL. I'm trying to figure out if I need to detach the tank from my grow beds and do hydroponics with them until the parasite issue is resolved in my fish/tank OR if I should treat the whole system, running the medication throught the grow beds, pump, filters (non carbon), tubing, etc.

I would appreciate ideas on how to get rid of caterpillars that have eaten down some cabbage and pak choi plants overnight, and are threatening my tomato plants and other leafy plants. Taking them off by hand is usually after the damage is done.

I have sprayed with a pepper/garlic mix, so far to no avail. Help!

I have slowly been cycling my system since last October. I have a total of 5 grow beds but added them one at a time. Now that they are all in circulation, I find that the last two I added fill VERY slowly and as such are holding water from the system. Also I find I'm adding water to my system at least once a week. In northern NM so humidity is very low.

I was told that once I had the bell siphons adjusted with water flow so they were charging and discharging to just leave them alone and not worry about how long it's taking to fill the bed. Is this correct or should I fuss with water flow and get all the beds filling at the same rate.

2nd question, is it normal to have to add 10% water once / week in a very dry climate. Fish (Rainbow Trout) don't seem to mind, eating fine and no deaths since October. Sprout spacing after broadcasting seedstag:aquaponicgardening.ning.com,2014-08-18:4778851:Topic:5754522014-08-18T01:18:43.727ZCarson Millerhttps://aquaponicgardening.ning.com/profile/CarsonMiller

Hi,

I used the 'broadcasting seeds' method mentioned on the aquaponic source website to plant leaf lettuce a couple of weeks ago and the results have been great. So great, that many sprouts are popping up right next to each other.

Should I remove some sprouts so that others have adequate spacing, or just let nature take its course? I'm also not sure how much space each plant requires. Pictures are included. Thank you!

Hi,

I've been working on a new aquaponic system and recently developed concerns regarding the seasonal swelling/shrinking of wood due to moisture and temperature changes. The entire system will be indoors, but the grow bed is made out of plywood and 2x4s. To waterproof the system, FRP wall boards were purchased and the system was sealed with 'farm safe' caulk. Additionally, the FRP boards are held onto the wood using an adhesive caulk.

I fear that movement of the wood could cause the caulk seal to break if the FRP shifts. Has anyone had experience with wooden grow beds? I looked into pond liners but they are very expensive and sometimes leach chemicals into the water.

Pictures are included below. Any suggestions would be appreciated! :)

This is a new kind of siphon I developed this year. In my own biased opinion it is much easier to use than a bell siphon, just as reliable and is hidden below the surface of the grow bed. It also only takes 5 minutes to make out of elbows, pipe, a T and some end caps.

Tell me what you think!
