Hi,

I just started and I'm having trouble with my bell siphon. I have a 40 gallon fish tank, 160 gph pump with 1/2" tubing flowing into approx 20 gallon container of hydroton. (I took out a bunch of hydroton while fiddling with bell siphon).
During the cycling phase, the siphon would continuously drain into the fish tank. I thought that was correct since I'm used to fish tank filters. After watching videos, I realize I never had the flood/drain process working. I moved the tubing a bit, and…
I don't know how to regulate the in-flow and get the bell siphon to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I pretty much have lost all of my fish now and I am going to recycle and restart the entire system. It was recommended to clean the entire system out and do a chlorine wash to kill any bacteria or parasites in the system......has anyone done this and is this a good idea?
Tried cukes last year in my indoor IBC set up. Hundreds of little (1/2") cukes, and then they plants started dying, and I ended up with powdery mildew in the gravel (pea gravel). Any thoughts or ideas on getting rid of it? I've heard baking soda, but to watch my chemical levels. My thought was to use one of the weed burners that attaches to a 20# propane tank. Thoughts or ideas?

Thanx

So I have had some issues with mildew and spider mites in my new system. It's a small system on a 10 gal fish tank.

Just a few questions that I haven't had luck finding the answer to through the search feature:

To deal with the spider mites, I plan to just replace the plants as they are only some herbs that I got at the grocery store. I will also be looking into worm casting tea to rid myself of mites long term. Question is - if I get rid of my plants and…

To deal with the spider mites, I plan to just replace the plants as they are only some herbs that I got at the grocery store. I will also be looking into worm casting tea to rid myself of mites long term. Question is - if I get rid of my plants and immediately replace them will I soon have mite problems again since I haven't eradicated the problem first?

Also - I've had some success with some of the mildew remedies I've found on here but it hasn't fully gone away because my hydroton is too shallow. My question is - can I spray the mildew and immediately add more hydroton or should I ensure all of the mildew is gone for a certain period of time before adding more on top?
Daphnia in my systemtag:aquaponicgardening.ning.com,2016-07-22:4778851:Topic:6330402016-07-22T07:46:18.267ZColin Hardinghttps://aquaponicgardening.ning.com/profile/ColinHarding

Two years ago I purchased the propane/solar heater sold in the store. Well, my fish died last fall so I went ahead and shut down the heater for the winter to save money. Now I can't get it started again. I bought a new pump, but I know I need to rebleed the system, but I can't find the manual with the setup instructions.

If anyone out there has the same system and a copy of the manual, I would really appreciate it if you could send me a copy. The folks at the store don't seem…

Windy
How to set up a great Swirl filter between media bed and raft bedtag:aquaponicgardening.ning.com,2016-03-10:4778851:Topic:6257792016-03-10T20:09:51.733ZBarbara Georgehttps://aquaponicgardening.ning.com/profile/BarbaraGeorge

I have a hybrid system with 7 media beds and 1 raft. between the last media bed and the raft is a swirl filter that clogs up regularly. It has two filter pads in it an I think that is clogging things up. Also, i think I need to clean out the 5 gallon bucket that makes up the swirl filter. Any ideas for a better solution? Please advise.
