I am currently designing a system and doing some research on the pumps and plumbing. One thing I'm not clear on: Is the head height only the height pumped out of the FT to the GB or is it the total length of the plumbing to reach the entire length of the GB? Thanks in advance.

Hi All

Just put together a simple flood and drain system with one grow bed above my 33 gallon tank. I am trying to figure out how frequent should I start and stop my submersible pump over a day (24hours). Currently, I am running my pump for 1/2 an hour with a 3 hours interval to reduce noise and electricity consumption. I notice that my plants are not growing as much but they are nice and firm. My question is, am I doing this right?

Ok, I'll try to make this short. What I have here is a system made from three IBC totes.

Fish Tank=250 Gal.

Sump Tank=150 Gal

3 GrowBeds, No/Media= 90 gal, W/Media= 36 Gal.

550 GPH pump from the sump tank feeding fish tank and three grow beds through 1-1/2" Pvc.

Each Grow bed is flooded from 4 sides with a bell siphon in the center.

1-1/2" solid lift riser in the center of the fish tank increased to 2" at the overflow tee.

2" feeds from fish tank into bottom of radial flow filter and over flows back into sump tank.

Question: What size and how many holes per side to drill for flooding beds.

Right now, with no holes, the over flow tee of the solid lift riser is almost overcome.

I'm thinking of starting with four 1/2" holes on each side and see how my bell siphon functions.

Any ideas or advise will be considered and appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

I found the plans to basically create a condenser out of aluminum pipe by running the pipe under ground, then back up and coiled in a 55 gallon drum in order to serve multiple purposes... 1) Draw humidity out of the air and collect the water 2) cool the air to run to a green house 3) cool down the water in the aquaponics system

Hello everyone! I recently finished Sylvia's Aquaponic Gardening book and feel empowered to make my own system. My goal is to eventually have an Urban Farm using Aquaponics, but I would like to start on a small scale first. I have about 500 SQFT of warehouse space at my disposal (lucky me!)

Our system will be a hybrid system--we will integrate media beds and DWC rafts. The water will be gravity fed from the fish tank to the media bed then to the DWC. Then at the end of the DWC there will be a pump (or sump w/ a pump?) sending the water back to the fish tank.

My question is this: can we pump the water back into the fish tank using a pool pump or do we need to utilize a sump tank? I am of the belief that we need a sump tank, but my business partner does not agree! I need a very good argument for why we need a sump tank--any suggestions??
Hey everyone. I have a large DWC that is lined with Dura-Skrim.

The bed is lined with 2X10, and I am using a 2" bulkhead fitting.

I have two fittings. One is leak free. The second is leaking pretty badly.

I do not have the option of moving the bulkhead.

Suggestions?

hello,

i've been a member for a while, but finally got our greenhouse built and our first system almost-running (cycling now). i can't seem to find info relating to the pvc pipe inside our greenhouse and if it will eventually break down?

if so, it it worth painting the pipes?...or just replacing when the time comes (pvc is cheap)?

I have a bell siphon system and it's working great. My root system is overtaking by piping and I need to slow down the bell siphon from breaking it's suction, so that more water can be emptied from the buckets. I have lowered the siphon point so that it siphons earlier, but I would still like to figure out how to slow down the breaking of the suction, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
