SUMMARY:The Status and Development of Balanced Aquaponic Systems
DESCRIPTION:Aquaponic systems are rapidly gaining attention for their 
 environmentally friendly waste-to-food design that integrates aquacult
 ure (fish farming) and hydroponics (soilless plant production). As the
  possibilities for income generation in local\neconomies increase, tec
 hnological considerations for improving the efficiency of these system
 s are also becoming more important. This presentation will examine the
  current status of aquaponics technology, highlighting the requirement

 2 years, R. Charlie Shultz has\nserved as a research analyst at the Ag
 ricultural\nExperiment Station at the University of the Virgin\nIsland
 s (UVI), actively involved in teaching and\nresearch concerning aquapo
 nics and tilapia\nproduction. The UVI team is world renowned for\nthe 
 development of the floating raft aquaponic\nsystem and has now taught 
 over 500 students\nfrom 52 nations and 45 U.S. states and territories\
 nduring their annual International Aquaponics and\nTilapia Aquaculture
