Event Description

Green Acres Aquaponics Basics Class

Join Sylvia Bernstein, the author of the bestselling book on aquaponics,“Aquaponic Gardening: A Step by Step Guide to Growing Fish and Vegetables Together”, for a one day immersion into the fundamentals of aquaponics. The day will start with an engaging, comprehensive course on aquaponic fundamentals taught classroom lecture-style. You will learn how aquaponics works, location considerations, system design fundamentals, fish and plant selection and care, and starting and maintaining your aquaponics system for optimal health and productivity. After lunch (included) we will spend the afternoon at Green Acre Aquaponic Farm to see first-hand how the classroom theory works in practice. You will have an opportunity to do a variety of hands-on activities including water testing and adjusting, fish feeding and handling, plant starting using cuttings, pruning, and more! The day will end with a demonstration of how to build a small HomeHybrid  aquaponics system of your very own!

Every student will be provided with both a printout of all of the lecture slides as well as a comprehensive guide with detailed plans for building your own HomeHybrid aquaponics system
(a $49 value)!
