well lets start this thing, i am completely new to this idea and this is the first time i have written anything on tis site and i want to say that i am very impressed by the community of people that are helping the other group members at every occasion. I truly believe that aquaponics is a tool that will help people, feed people and help this earth that we all inhabit.  when we have to nurture the organisms that are working for us in a tight system we will benefit, rather than "cheating" with chemicals and growing "food" in sterile soil.  Cheers to you all and the best in this new year.  I hope to report back soon with progress.  robb

Wheat will do just fine, just like any other grass, but it uses a great deal of surface space for what you'll get in terms of harvestable food, both in terms of mass and value.

In that case William, you probably need to do some research into small plot wheat growing/harvesting/processing to learn how people do it by hand and not in the big mega agriculture.  Pay attention to climate, season, lighting and info that might help you recognize particular problems, pests, diseases, or deficiencies in wheat.  (Planting, fertilizing, irrigation etc is taken care of differently for aquaponics)

As far as planting I expect you could simply sprinkle the seed wheat onto the gravel and it will fall down to the moisture and start to grow if planted in the right season for your climate.

You will probably need an extensive amount of grow beds to grow enough to make very much flower though.  Now I've never grown wheat to make flower, my climate isn't really good for it.  But I expect a 5 gallon bucket could grow a sheaf of wheat (I do not know how many sheaf of wheat you need to get say a cup of wheat berries though.)

Nor do I know how root bound a grow bed growing wheat might get.

But I'm sure the plants will grow........

There probably isn't much written about growing wheat in Aquaponics since that is normally such a large acreage field crop and not too many people are interested in growing only a few square feet of wheat and then trying to figure out how to process it by hand.  But I expect it should be just as easy to grow as many other crops in aquaponics and if you are growing for juicing the grass rather than harvesting the grain, then it all should be much easier.

Sure, wheat or wheat grass could be grown in aquaponics.
