Drove down to Nebraska Lake Management fish farm near Valparaiso, Nebraska and picked up the fingerlings. Acclimatizing them for a brief time in mixture of their transport water and my tank water.
Update... fingerlings are doing fine, but they are finicky eaters, unlike the Goldfish I had. They are also considerably 'messier,' producing a lot more waste, some of which is uneaten AquaMax 600 pellets.
i've read that it takes 10lbs of feed to put 1lb of meat on the fish, but i recently saw something that said that was if the bass was only eating forage.. if you provide with a high protein feed, i think it was closer to 3lbs for every lb gained..but i really don't know for sure... good luck!
I opted to go with largemouth bass as the suggestion of Greg Whitis, Auburn University aquaculture extension agent who suggested they be better for my water temperature based on the data I've keep since last Fall. So, here's hoping they work out.
