I've been doing some research about alternative feed. some studies show duckweed; I think that Moringa Oleifera  leaves are the best. The leaves are very rich with a balance diet, It's a tree that grows in tropical and subtropical climate easy to maintain and within 6 Months of planting  you can start harvesting the leaves.

I would like to hear your thought in that one.

Just making sure here.  But Moringa Oleifera is not a variety of Duckweed.

I've grown Moringa but my fish were not much interested in eating it.  Might be useful as a supplement ingredient in making your own fish feed though.  I've found that it really only seems to grow well here about half the year.  It freezes back at the first sign of frost and doesn't really seem to start re-growing till well into the hot season.

Indeed Moringa is not a variety of duckweed.

I think once the leaves are dry and mixed with fish powder and corn or soybean served in a form of palette maybe it will work.

That's just a suggestion

I was thinking about using organic bird food somehow.  Some blends are high in protein, low in fat, and contain seeds with beneficial oils (e.g. flax I think has high Omegas).  I'd use them ground, soaked or sprouted, not sure.

Maybe some of the oils would be BAD for the system though?  Is anyone here using bird food for part of their fish's diet?

I will also be growing duckweed for food, and worms.  And testing just about everything from the garden to see what they like from there.

Organic cat food works fine.  Good profile and has all the right stuff.  Everything else is a lot of extra work.  It works with most all fish. Pacu, bluegil, koi and goldfish

Organic cat food -- great idea!!

I will see how prices compare.  Now I'm wondering what other OG animal foods might have acceptable profiles.

Anyone here ever feed their 'cats' cat food?

I use kitten it is smaller in size.  Depending on brand some float and others sink.

Will the cat-feed work for trout? As the fish feed I'm thinking of, (not the bsfl and worms chopped in a food preprocessor and frozen, no a little less crazy now then when I thought of that) silver cup trout feed is only in a large quantity and I'm only going to feed about 275 gallons worth of fish. (stupid jumbled sentence)
Well compare the protein %.  That will give you a base idea if the feed will be even remotely compatible but as to other nutrient requirements for healthy fish, it's hard to say since cat digestion is going to be a bit different than the fish requirements.  Could be a bit of trial and error.
Warwick your idea of the worms is good but you'll never have enough if you're running a big operation

Well I trying to give the future fish a natural diet. (who cares about past tense or post tense) Anyways, 275 gallons is only about 5-7 fish to feed. (trout)

yea, you probably don't want to be forced to buy huge bags of fish feed, seeing as they don't keep forever when you are talking really high protein trout feed.

Does anyone feed crickets to their fish as a supplement?  I have an abundant supply outside this time of year. :)
