I read a book on aquaponics after about 2 years of being obsessed with my 20 gallon glow fish tank. In this tank I was fascinated with the growth of my freshwater plants, the nitrogen cycle, and the symbiotic relationships of everything living in it. I grew a plant called chain sword that I bought at my local pet store for $1. When I heard about aquaponics I thought that maybe I was dreaming because I am very interested in hydroponics. I never have grown anything using hydroponics. It just was very intriguing to me.
Being a kayaker in central Pennsylvania, I am troubled by the state of our societies consciousness. We do not seem to realize how connected we are to the Earth and all life on it. Instead our water ways have become the trashcan for our over cultivated farms. If there is anything I can do to help the condition of our rivers it would be to join the fight for sustainable farming. I would love to make a living doing this. So I am starting small, learning, and planning for a big self sustaining system.
