Lettuce

I have some lettuce that I put on a floating device. The other plants in the grow beds are doing fine but the lettuce is not. Do I need to do anything different for veggies that float?

Mike, typically if folks are using bell siphons they aren't using timers... do you have bell siphons on all your beds?  If so, my advice is to forget the timers.  Be sure to put valves on each pipe leading into your grow beds so you can adjust the flow and the siphon.

HI Mike.  Not sure what you mean by 'fish pumps'.  If you mean am I constantly circulating the fish tank water through the grow beds my answer is 'no'.  I run those pumps for 15 minutes on and 45 minutes off.  The plants appreciate the 'dry time' and the extra oxygen pulled into the grow beds when the water exits.  If you mean the air pumps for adding extra oxygen to the fish tanks then the answer is 'yes', I run those all the time!  Hope this helps!

Jump in and ask questions. Read up on the Nitrogen cycle and post the results of your water tests. Good Luck!

Hi Mike,

That was fast!

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions. Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.

A great place to start is to read the How to Use This Site link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Main page.

Please add a photo of yourself, your systems and participate! Oh, and please join the Colorado Aquapons group.

Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.

Sylvia
