Retired since 2008 and took up gardening. It's been very labor intensive but satisfying. I have always agreed with the term (work smarter not harder). I discovered aquaponics online in various gardening pages but never really thought much of it till this year. I started a small system mainly because of the drought where I live. I completed the system and added plants one day and 20 goldfish the next. They died.
I realized the system was lacking bacteria so I purchased a bacteria solution from a pet store for quick starting aquariums. I then added more goldfish and they all made it and are thriving. The plants have doubled in size. I added red wiglers to the grow bed to handle solids and create more good stuff for the plants. I AM HOOKED. Already planning a self sustained and constant climate greenhouse for growing all year.
