Thank you for your email. I took that photo on a pond in a park nearby (Schlitz Audubon Nature center, Bayside, Wisconsin) [http://www.schlitzauduboncenter.com/] where I volunteer from time to time. I never practice Aquaponic gardening but am interested to know more about it. I visited Growing Powers in Milwaukee where they have a very sophisticated system of raising Tilapias with an "river" of cress to purify the water in the fish tank. I was also impressed by their way of heating their green houses by putting a pile of a certain mixture (I forgot what is was, but it was producing enough heat to avoid freezing) on the corner of the green house. I have a 36 x 48 ft fenced garden, but the nearby trees are growing so much than there is less and less sun, so my wife took over most of it to grow flowers to attract birds and butterflies. She loves animals and we have plenty of wild life around here, despite the fact that we are in town. (squirrels, of course, chipmunks, coyotes, raccoons, deer, etc).
For the garden, I am using the square foot gardening method and it works beautifully, but seasons are short here.
With my best wishes,
Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a great place to explore aquaponics. I’ve started the ball rolling with a few general forum topics, and will try to add more on a regular basis, but I’m hoping that you and others will add your own topics as they occur to you. I’ve also added some of my favorite videos and a few random photos…again, please share your favorites with us!
We have just a few simple rules: stay on the subject of aquaponics and keep it cordial (no flaming!). If someone decides to break these rules they will get a warning, and then be banned from the community after that. But of course I’m hoping that never happens!
Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.
