Levels okay? PH. Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates.....not sure

I just want to know if these levels are acceptable readings - I have 3 150 gallons tanks with about 60 tilapia. We naturally have high PH and I use PH down to control it but it often goes back up so…Continue

"I would try cycling it again. You can leave the plants in, and maybe add some sea kelp or other natural fish-safe nutrient to keep your plants alive.  I would try some AquaCycle, and follow the cycling instructions."

"What kind of fish do you have?  Is your water temp right for them? What is your water source? Are you filtering it? I would try to slowly lower the pH to the low 7's. My best guess is the addition of water after you flooded the sump messed…"

HELP....Fish keep dying!!!

We have tried everything....had the water tested and it came back fine just a little high in sodium....added some salt to the system, cleaned out the tanks....for a short while we thought it was fish bullying so we put a terra cotta pot in the bottom of each tank and created housing out of 3  5 inch wide pvc pipes strapped together and no deaths for a few days and now 4 were dead yesterday and 3 today.....we have had our systmem for about nine months and all was perfect until I forgot I was…See More

"Hi Christine, What are your ammonia, nitrite, pH, and temperature readings at?  Did you recently change out a large volume of your water?  This could have damaged your bacteria if the water was untreated. "

HELP!!!! No Nitrates

We have had our aquaponics system for about 8 months and everything was running beautifully...until I forgot to turn the water off the sump tank and threw everything off. We are in a greenhouse with 3 tanks and about 40 fish between them that feed into 4 4x8 media beds. The beds had several tomato plants flourishing along with cucumbers, kale, swiss chard, lettuce and celery at the time along with one HUGE cherry tomato plant/tree! Well, it has been well over a month now and I cannot get our…See More

"This is just my personal opinion but, I worry more about low PH than high PH. The nitrifying bacteria are always working on lowering it so maybe you could relax a little bit on that. I also think you might be overfeeding the fish if the nitrites are…"

Levels okay? PH. Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates.....not sure

I just want to know if these levels are acceptable readings - I have 3 150 gallons tanks with about 60 tilapia. We naturally have high PH and I use PH down to control it but it often goes back up so it is a continuous battle. Here are my readings as of late; PH 7.8; Amonnia: 0.25; Nitrites between 0.25 -0.50 and Nitrates 80+ and maybe 160 ...it is hard to tell exactly where it falls in color. My nitrites were always zero until the last few weeks and I am not sure if it is something I should be…See More

Cucumber mosaic virus

I recently planted cucumbers in our media bed in a passive solar greenhouse and the they are not doing well and the leaves are turning yellow-brown. This would indicate cucumber mosaic virus in a regular garden but I am new to aquaponics so not sure if that happens. Does anyone have any answers or fixes? Thanks...See More

"So I'm assuming your hose water has chlorine in it?  The chlorine has probably off gassed by now, but it probably killed off a percentage of your nitrifying bacteria that convert your ammonia to nitrates.  It will just take a bit of…"
