- I read "Aquaponic Gardening" and I was hooked on the concept instantly. After a year of conceptualizing and months of building my backyard system is complete.It consists of 6, half-55-gal barrel, barrel-ponics style grow beds and a 180 gallon stock tank in a timer based flood and drain system.I worked for an urban organic farm before venturing into aquaponics. I now work for a local mushroom farm, we're mainly growing Phoenix Oyster.
