We are still some way off from being able to grow our own complete food source for our fish, but many of us may want to substitute and grow some, if not all the food we use.  I have been looking at…Continue

Making a grape cutting

Started by Kobus Jooste. Last reply by AlbertF Feb 17, 2011. 6 Replies

It is mid summer here and I am tempted to try and make a grape cutting from a vine in my father-in-law's garden.  Will a summer / soft wood cutting take or will I have to remain patient until Autumn?

Hi All

I have a system running for about 8 months in Mumbai, India. It is a CHOP2 system totalling 1300 litres and growing Tilapia.

I try to maintain the pH at 6.8 and use the following for supplementation:

-Potassium Hydroxide (pH UP)

-Calcium Carbonate (pH UP)

-Chelated Iron (aprox. 40 gms every two weeks)

-Magnesium Sulphate (aprox 20 gms added only once so far but planned to dose at same rate as Fe)

The green house is ventilated but it gets very hot inside during the afternoon. I'm in the middle of trying ways to cool the environment and the water as it is certain that the peak sun in the afternoon stresses out the plants. Fish seem to be okay and the water temp has gone up to about 31 C this month.

My leaves are showing some signs of deficient/stress. Any advise on what may be causing such issues?

Pic for the system:

Pics for the leaves showing deficiencies:

Egg plant (aubergine) and strawberry showing purple shading, can this be Phosphorus related? if so, is it deficiency or excess?

Old leaf on Egg plant (aubergine)

Basil leaf showing curling which I think is from the heat but what about the bumps formed on the leaf surface?

Help much appreciated, thanks all...

Wthe strawberries I planted 2 days ago still have not perked up. Maybe being loaded with berries made the difference?
