@Tony, sorry to hear of your loss. As I have lost family members as well. One of my cousins gave me the best advice: "Just take it a day at a time and over time it will get easier". I know that doesn't help, but I do remember her telling me this and indeed it did get easier, over time, but I know how raw it can feel in the first year. All my best to you and hope you are doing well.
Tony, I understand. I lost mine on Christmas night 10 years ago and I m still trying to get back into the groove. All you can do is keep on, keeping on. You know she would be mad if you didn't.
Tony-
I am deeply sad that your wife passed, please accept my flute prayers for a bit of consolation. Please do continue with the aquaponics, you may see her in what you do. Be well

Oh, Tony, I am so sorry to read of your dear wife's passing. If that happened to me, I do not know what I would do. I would be totally lost.
Tony,
I'm sure we are all sad to hear of your wife's passing and can emphasis with the daily issues of living without her. I hope working on your A/P will bring you joy. I find spending time with my fish and watching my plants grow really fun. I spend a lot of time there not because it demands so much work, it's just a great space to commune with life. My best to you
Hi Guys, I know i haven't posted a comment for a few months now. For that i apologize. My wife passed away in October and i've been struggling with the day to day grind without her. My yet unfinished system is the same as it was in October. I'm just starting to get back in the groove an i think i want to continue building my system even though she was the reason i started building it in the first place. Guess i got till spring to decide. Anyway sorry for my absence
You can order the API freshwater master test kits online either from Sylvia at the Aquaponic Source or That pet place. Just search it.
Avoid the test strips for the aquarium testing supplies since they are sometimes not accurate and seem to go bad faster.
The PH and alkalinity of the pond sounds promising to use as system water,
Coty, the siphon question. I often find that a drop of about 4 inches below the bed works well. I don't know if there is a true "minimum" since that may vary depending on the exact design of the siphon. I have one that the drain pipe drops 2 feet and another where it probably drops 3 inches.
Search Affnan siphon for some good info about siphons.
Sally dont forget to check local pet stores for water test kits, especially if they sell aquariums.
