Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I'm so glad to have found this forum. My daughter has gotten me interested in AP and I have been educating myself here for the last week. I have collected two IBC,s do far and cut them down into three GB's and a FT. I also found a 30 by 45 foot greenhouse that was abandoned about ten years ago and is completely overgrown. The owner was happy to get a hundred dollars for letting me haul it off. Still working on that one.

I am planning on trying a tank of Bluegill and a second of Channel catfish. It looks like I may have to start with gold fish through the winter because I can't see me getting all this together before September.

I was happy to see there are several more people in this area doing this or just starting, like me. If anybody is unaware of it, there is a large Tilapia farming operation in Robert Louisiana. It's hard to find. It's about a quarter mile east of the Wall mart distribution center on 190. He sells thousands of fingerlings all over the U.S. and is a really nice young man. He seems to love showing people his operation and talking about it. I showed up on a Sunday afternoon and he took time off from his barbecue to show me all around the place and invited me back. It looks like an 18 hour a day job, 7 days a week, for him and one other man. I wish him luck. He seems to be barely making it.

I'm off to spend the rest of the week cutting vines and trees and disassembling a greenhouse.
